Last Friday I went to a tack and horse auction not to far away from home.
I hadn't been to one for a long time and this was the first time coming to this particular place.
I did not know what to expect and was surprised to only see a handful of horses when we first arrived.
They all looked worried as people passed by looking them over.
I had promised my dear husband I wouldn't buy any livestock that day and I held true to my word, but it was hard.
There was a tall, thin Belgian mare there and she sold for $295. She looked like a fine horse but only the Lord knows her history.
There was this poor donkey who'd foundered, the toes of his hooves curled up like the shoes of 'Alladin". They pushed him around the ring as he painfully picked up his feet trying to move. I felt so sad for him. He sold for only $40.
An 18 yearold arab mare, horribly thin, but with a beautiful face sold for only $185.
The other dear creature that comes to mind was a poor 6 month old black filly. I think she was partially or totally blind as she had grey oval areas the size of dimes in her eyes. She seemed blind as she moved hesitantly around trying to get her bearings. She sold for $50.
Altogether there was 13 horses/ponies including the donkey.
I hope their new homes are meeting their needs.
I think of how my heart goes out to them and then think how God's heart is moved for people who are very much like these neglected creatures.
He wants to help them but we are his 'sent ones' and are to be his hands and his feet.
